1) Editor's Comments:For those of you with Yahoo.com addresses, for some reason there were delivery problems to you last week -- if you'd like to view last week's issue, just visit Issue 20. If the same thing happens this week, we may be forced to send you the issue from Tom's main e-mail address. Well, it is hard to believe we are already at the end of May. Here in the Upper Midwest of the US, it took so long for spring to arrive and for the weather to warm that many folks still haven't finished their outdoor planting -- or they hopefully will be finishing this weekend. This issue we decided to focus on enhancing our sleep and enhancing our environment. I hope you enjoy it. As always, if you do have questions, suggestions or ideas, do not hesitate to drop us a note. Well, dream pillows are centuries old, dating back to the 16th century when people began using fragrant herbs to encourage restful sleep.
Dream Pillows are a form of aroma therapy, a means of making your dreams more interesting, more soothing or more colorful. If you are a dreamer, try a DREAM PILLOW. The one we offer contains the following herbs: lavender, mugwort, rose petals, white sage, hops, yerba santa, lilac flowers, balsam fir, and bear root. You may find others with different herb combinations. When I was about 12 or 13-years-old my Mother and Father had a friend who operated a business called "The Shepard of the Hills." My parents enjoyed helping him by traveling Indian Reservations in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and the Dakotas to purchase articles of Indian Art for him to sell. He distributed this Indian Art to tourist stores. On one such trip with my parents I met an old Indian Medicine Man who enjoyed sharing his stories of Indian lore. One such story was about the INDIAN DREAM PILLOWS. According to the Medicine Man he had his "sqaws" make Dream Pillows filled with Indian Herbs. He told me that if I would hang one of his Dream Pillows above my bed when I went to sleep at night all my dreams would come true. While in the Marine Corp, I served in the South Pacific. Years later, I retraced my South Pacific journey. One of the places I served was a Marine Corp Base in Auckland, New Zealand. While staying with friends near Auckland, their 17-year-old daughter told us students were voting the next day at her high school for Senior Class President and she was running for the honor. She doubted she would win because the person running against her was a very popular, handsome young man, who was also Captain of their Rugby team. Well I had brought some dream pillows with me on the trip to give as gifts. I decided to present her with a dream pillow. I told her the old Medicine Man's story and suggested that if she would hang the dream pillow above her bed that night all her dreams would come true! The next day at lunch, the telephone rang and the daughter screamed -- "I WON! I WON!!!" I can't promise that all your dreams will come true -- but I can guarantee that this is a true story, and at least it will make a good conversation piece when you have house guests. Who knows, maybe your dreams will come true! 3) Humor for Today:A boy had reached four without giving up the habit of sucking his thumb, though his mother tried everything from bribery to reasoning to painting it with pepper sauce to discourage the habit. Finally she tried threats, warning her son that, "If you don't stop sucking your thumb, your stomach is going to blow up like a balloon!" Later that day, walking in the park, mother and son saw a pregnant woman sitting on a bench. The four-year-old watched her for a minute, before saying, "Uh-oh... I know what YOU'VE been doing." 4) Planters on a Mission:Planters are a fantastic way to spruce up your patio, deck, yard, or garden. They also work great for folks with limited gardening space.
Next time you are looking for pots and planters, you may want to take a look at those made from recycled plastic. They look great - just like traditional terra cotta - and weigh very littls. They are much tougher than terra cotta since they are touted as chip-proof and crack-proof. Most of the recycled plastic pots are manufactured with at least 75% post-consumer waste. Not only do you end up with great looking planters, you also help to save the environment. 5) Soap Trick: Keeping Hands Clean (Tom)
Usually we want to keep our dirt in the garden, but it is awful tough to keep it off our hands. Wouldn't it be nice to have some soap close by when gardening? For some, if you had soap handy it might help keep peace in the family -- so you don't get yelled at for a sink turning black.
And rather than putting a fresh bar of soap in the bag, why not collect all those little pieces and slivers of soap you normally throw away. Simply hang the bag near the hose. The mesh or fabric from the bag will act as a rag to help scrub that soil from your hands. You could also use it to scrub the dirt off your tools when you're done for the day. 6) Quotes for Today:"A man's mind stretched by a new idea can never go back to its
original dimension."
7) What is that Weed?
Why not make a visit to the New Jersey Weed Gallery site? Do a search by name -- or if you are a visual person, browse the thumbnail image index and see if you can locate that pesky demon. 8) Alternative Fuels:So, what are alternative fuels? We hear the phrase used all the time on CNN whenever the discussion turns to Middle East oil. Most of the time the phrase alternative fuels is used in reference to vehicle fuels that aren't made from petroleum. The US Department of Energy has recognized many different kinds of alternatives. Unfortunately, many of them are cost prohibitive right now. Here are some of the most popular alternative fuels:
